Simulations are powerful educational tools. Telecommunications allow teachers and students the world over to use these tools and interact with people the world over. Educational Simulations, Inc., has set itself the goal of bringing these powerful options to ALL teachers and students who have access to the Internet.

Model United
Nations
Registration for the September cycle now in progress. |
Model
United Nations is an electronic version of a Harvard style
Model United Nations. Besides being a great stand-alone simulation, it is
an excellent training site for schools planning to send teams to a Model
UN simulation. This simulation is not limited by many of the constraints
which become necessary when 100 or more people physically interact in a
room. Everyone can talk (electronically) and actively seek support for proposals
or amendments (email). ALL students can participate. We are making plans
to test the Beta now. Email Jeremy
Baillie, the simulation manager, for more information. |

Electronic United Nations
Spring Session Closed - Next Session Fall 1997![]() |
The
Electronic United Nations is an interactive educational simulation geared
to the middle and elementary school student. Students will use a variety
of resources
to research topics. Then they role play the interaction of the United
Nations as they develop Resolutions.
Debates follow and finally votes are taken on the proposed resolutuions.
The structure is more loose than the Model United Nations, which can also
be found on this website. This simulation is geared more toward helping
teachers and students focus on a topic of discussion and then share their
research. It wraps up with a finish project for a culuminating activity
and this is shared with appropriate real people over the net. There will
be a number of cycles
during the school year. Each one will last about one and half to two
months. |
Starting the Fall of 1997 and lasting the WHOLE year.![]() |
The
Classroom Country is designed specifically with the upper elementary grades
in mind. It works best in a self contained environment but can successfully
be done in an departmentalized upper elementary setting. During the play
of the simulation, the classroom will construct a "classroom country." This
includes declaring
their independence from their mother country, developing a constitution,
a legislative
system, a judicial
system, and an economy.
Then, through the use of this website, the classroom countries can
connected with other classroom countries. To support this project, we will be putting up a Forum, Chat, and Listserv to allow both students and teachers to share the process. The effects of this simulation reach far beyond the factual knowledge gained. Student motivation is greatly increased as they learn about leadership, power, politics, wants and needs, the importance of law and order, and may other hard to teach concepts. Besides the teacher directed learning, a great deal of student constructed learning takes place. Effective teachers will find many ways to use the simulation to help with classroom control and spark learning in different disciplines. This is one unit that just may last the entire school year and will make you one of those teachers your students never forget. Through this simulation, they will learn just what the real world is like and how it works. All materials necessary to get the classroom country running will be provided. As a teacher of over 20 years in the classroom I will "guarantee" that your students will remember and learn from this simulation to a degree that will suprise and please you. Enterprise Games was designed by Gary McKay from Tasmania. The simulation uses something called "situational drama" to teach students the workings of business and the real world. In the simulation, students take on roles within the a mini-world and develop and run a mini-economy. This simulation includes the development of business, banks, and a bureaucracy --- always there is the bureacracy! Gary has been running this simulation in schools in Tasmania and now he is modifying this fun and educational project on the Internet. For a closer look at what he is doing, check out his pages. Some of the pages are still under development so please forgive the sounds of saws, hammers and drills.

Thematic Poetry ![]() |
We have run this poetry project during December and January of 96/97.
It is easy to do and a great opportunity for teachers to incorporate art,
language arts, and HTML programing into a single unit. We will be putting
on another session in the Fall of 1997. If you are interested, drop us a
note at edu4sim@simulations.com.

Under Construction![]() |
This
area is not yet ready to be seen by the public. Stay out while we continue
working on it. |
