In June of 1999, the American run school in what was once
the Panama Canal Zone, will close their doors for ever.
These schools have a history that goes back to the 1920's.
We are organizing a learning project that will look at the
past history of the Canal, its schools', and the country. It
will have as one of its components, the development of a
archive of historically significant interviews of the
individuals living, working and going to school in Panama as
the canal moves toward complete Panamanian control at the
end of this year. We are looking for active participation
from a number of US school in the area to include Curundu
Elementary School, Curundu Middle School, and Balboa High
School. This project will get underway in March 1999 and
culminate on December 31, 1999, with the turn over of the
canal to complete control by Panama. |
